You Got a Friend in Me

Getting healthier and losing weight can be so hard that we invent excuses not to do it. Even after we’ve started, we can easily give up on it, and on ourselves.

What’s the secret to achieving and maintaining progress?

Your community of friends and family. It’s important to involve them, and maybe even your colleagues, on your journey to better health. Even online friends can give you a boost.

Here’s how to your community can support you:

  1. Meal buddies

Our meal times are important not just for the food we need, but also for bonding with family and friends. This socialising can make dieting really hard. Find friends who are willing to eat healthier with you, or even skip a meal together if you are trying intermittent fasting.

  2. Accountability or goal partner

Tell someone you trust what your goal is - such as losing 5kg, or reaching a fat percentage goal - and how long you want to take to get there. Get your partner to check on your progress and motivate you.

  3. Challenge partner

Give your friend or family member something of value, such as a favourite item or even some money. Tell them to return it to you only when you’ve reached your health goal.

Remember: there’s no shame in trying to improve yourself and get healthier. You’re doing it for your sake as well as for your loved ones, so share your goals and your stresses.

Achieve your goals together!
